Fire Hardened Soffit Assembly

While we have the soffit and vent in we are going to cover up the gap with a noncombustible trim. The goal of a fire hardened soffit is to keep embers out of the soffit space and attic, to keep any of the materials that are directly connected to the inside to be noncombustible. In this assembly we have a 1x1 trim piece, that holds the soffit up while we install, we have a hardie cedar mill soffit panel, vulcan 4x14in remodel vent. We have our red intumescent caulking. In the assembly the hardie is noncombustible, the intumescent fills the gap, the vents allow air in with an intumescent matrix and the mesh is close together to keep large embers from getting through at all.
